What Premiere Pro is good for in an AD pipeline
Premiere is a capable place to hold and mix an audio description track once it exists — dropping a narration clip onto a timeline, adjusting levels against the original mix, and exporting the final delivery file are all things it does well, the same as any other audio layer.
What it doesn't do
Premiere has no concept of an AD workflow specifically. No automatic detection of the silent gaps between dialogue, no lock that prevents a clip from overlapping a spoken line, no character-count guidance for how much text fits a given gap, and no structured audit trail of clip timing and reviewer decisions for a compliance file. Every one of those has to happen outside the NLE.
A workflow that uses both
Export a reference cut from Premiere, bring it into AD-specific software for gap detection, writing, timing, and narration, then bring the finished track back into Premiere for final mix and delivery-format export. Premiere stays the editing and delivery tool; the AD-specific software handles the part it was actually built for.
